William "Bill" Donald Stansell, Jr.
Walhalla, South Carolina
It is with heartfelt mourning and sadness that we share the passing of William “Bill” Donald Stansell, Jr. of Walhalla, SC on the morning of May 4, 2023.
Bill was born on March 6, 1967 to William “Don” Stansell Sr. and Patricia Sitton Stansell in Hendersonville, NC. He grew up in North Carolina, Luxembourg, and finally Delaware, where he attended the University of Delaware and graduated with a finance degree.
He is survived by his three children, Katie (Stansell) Rookstool and her husband Sam of Piedmont, SC, Mike Stansell and his wife Becca of Denver, CO, and Will Stansell of Damascus, MD. He is also survived by his sister Kim Taylor of Walhalla, SC.
Bill is predeceased by his parents, Pat and Don, and his sister Shirley.
He was first diagnosed with esthesioneuroblastoma, a cancer of the olfactory sinuses, in 2004, and went into remission for 13 years after undergoing extensive surgery and radiation. When his cancer recurred with metastasis in 2017, Bill maintained a joyful attitude and complete trust in the Lord as he continued to battle this disease. In the final week of his life, Bill saw his son Mike marry the love of his life, his first granddaughter Ryann Rookstool born to Katie and Sam, and his youngest son Will graduate college.
Bill lived for his children and lived for the Lord, and anyone who knew him knew of his confidence through adversity, his kindness, and his selfless servant’s heart. In his later years he worked as a contractor and never hesitated to volunteer his time and skills to help others with service projects. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and a love of outdoors which he passed on to his children. He has left a gaping hole in the lives of those fortunate enough to have known him, but his impact of love will live on in his family.
A memorial service to honor and celebrate Bill will be arranged by his family at a later date.
