Silvia Loraine Boone, a beloved educator, devoted mother, and faithful servant of God,
passed away peacefully on October 25, 2024, at the Age of 76.
Loraine was born on April 24, 1948, in Clarksville, Tennessee, to Joseph Eugene Coley
and Silvia Pauline Simpkins Coley. She had a passion for learning, which evolved into a
strong desire to share her knowledge through teaching. After graduating from
Emmanuel College in 1974, Loraine began her teaching career in Greenville, South
Carolina, quickly establishing herself as a dedicated and inspiring educator.
Her love for science and commitment to her students' personal and academic growth
were evident throughout her career. She pursued further degrees in education at
Clemson University and the University of Georgia. Over her 32-year career, Loraine
taught at several schools, with the longest tenure at Seneca Junior High and Seneca
Middle School.
Loraine, a devoted follower of Christ, found immense joy in her faith. In her younger
years, she was an active church member and committed herself to serving her
community in various ways. After retiring, she discovered a way to combine her passion
for education with her love for Christ. She spent four summers teaching in China, which
enriched her life, broadened her perspective, and allowed her to share the love of Christ
with others.
Loraine's life was a testament to her unwavering faith in Christ and her passion for
learning. Beyond the classroom, she found solace and joy in her garden. She tended to
her plants with meticulous care, finding peace in the rhythm of nature. Her green thumb
was a reflection of her nurturing spirit, as she cultivated not only her garden but also the
hearts of those around her.
Loraine was accomplished in her career and a devoted mother who cherished her
family. She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Gordon Boone Jr., her
brother, James Eugene Coley, and her grandson, Gabriel Anthony Boone.
She is survived by her brother, Brian Coley and his wife Wanda; her sister, Twila Coley
and her husband Gerrald; her son, Gordon C. Boone III, and his children, Gordon C.
Boone IV and Katherine L. Boone; as well as her daughter, Phoebe Abigail Edwards,
and her children, Gauge W. Edwards, Hunter A. Edwards, and Celia E. Hudson.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, November 6, at 1:00 p.m. at Mountain View
Funeral Home in Seneca, SC, with a burial to follow at 3:00 p.m. at Franklin Memorial
Gardens in Lavonia, Georgia.
