God opened the gates of Heaven for Lila Ramona McCoy, age 86, on March 25, 2025.
Ramona was born on December 4, 1938 to N.A. and Catherine Green McCoy. She was raised in a Christian home surrounded by love.
As a young woman she had desires of being a nurse. She was accepted and attended the nursing program at Anderson Hospital. Not long after starting her schooling to become a nurse she met and married Gene Edney. Gene was enlisted and had orders to report to Alabama, so the newlyweds moved to Alabama and started a family. Their son Alan was born in Alabama and daughter Regina was born when they came back to South Carolina.
In 1965, Ramona was hired to work at the Salem Branch of the Oconee County Library. Her work at the Salem Library spanned 35 years. During those 35 years she was part of a growing and ever-changing Library system that strived to meet the needs of the patrons. In the early years her position was part-time and the library was located in Salem's town hall that was above the fire station.
The Salem Branch soon needed more space, and relocated to a building that had three retail spaces. The library was in the middle space of the building, on one side was the Gulf stations’ garage and Alfred Orr's barbershop on the other side. The new location was one level and provided easy access to all of the patrons. Her position moved from being part-time to full-time to provide longer hours of operation. She was part of a third expansion and relocation of the Salem Branch to it's current location and hired an additional person at the Salem Branch. She loved to read and so did Alan & Regina.
She was a member of Salem Baptist Church where she taught Sunday school. She was always one of the first to volunteer to drive her station wagon to haul church children to youth day activities or taking the RA’s to camp McCall.
Ramona was predeceased by her parents, her children, Alan Edney & Regina Edney and her brother Don McCoy.
She is survived by her nieces and their husbands, Sherry & Randal Stephenson, Sheila & Ronnie Wald, Susan & Kevin Landreth. She is also survived by an Uncle Clark Green, Aunt Cookie Green, Aunt Doris Green, as well as several cousins.
