Nathaniel (Nat) William Cloer was born on November 3, 1941, in Hayesville NC, to Carl and Grace Cloer. He died on May 7, 2024, at Oconee Memorial Hospital. He leaves behind his wife, Jennifer Jarrett Cloer; two sons, Nathaniel Thaddeus (Nena), and Clayton Parnell (Linda); five grandchildren; Gabrielle Hinson, Nathan Cloer, Alexandra Cloer, James Cloer, and Christian Cloer; one great-grandchild: Collins Hinson; his stepdaughter Julie Wilson Upton (Matt); two brothers: Tom Cloer Jr, and Michael Cloer, and five nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents Carl Cloer Sr and Grace Cloer, and his wife of sixty years, Bobbie Cloer (Cox).
Nat professed his faith in Jesus Christ as a young teenager and was baptized at the Northcutt Baptist Church in Elljay, GA. He graduated from Jacksboro High School in La Follette, TN. Nat lived, with his family, in Asheville, NC (1962-1969), Pickens, SC (1969-1987), Seneca, SC (1987-2022), and most recently Clemson, SC. He owned and operated lumber manufacturing mills and natural resources across South Carolina, Georgia, North Carolina, and Tennessee including Compton and Cloer Lumber Company, Power Dry International, West Union Hardwoods, Clinton Hardwoods, Ketchen Land and Timber, and Davis Creek Energy.
Nat was an outgoing, gregarious, people person. He built lifelong friendships as he worked and worshiped. His passion for Jesus Christ was expressed by his words of encouragement and witness, faithful life, loyal friendships, and bold convictions.
Nat loved to travel. He adventured to Alaska, Canada, New Zealand, Italy, France, England, and Scotland, Belgium, Fiji, and Scandinavia. Nat was a sportsman, enjoyed trout fishing, golf, hunting, and Clemson sports.
Nat was a faithful member of the Hepsibah Baptist Church in Seneca, SC. He loved the Lord and supporting Christian causes.
The memorial service for Nat will be held at Hepsibah Baptist Church in Seneca, SC, on Saturday, May 11, at 2:30 PM, with Michael Cloer, Thad Cloer, and Clayton Cloer officiating. Visitation will begin at 1:30 PM before the service at Hepsibah Baptist Church. A private interment will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers the family requests that contributions be made in memory of Nat to Oconee Christian Academy in Seneca, SC, and the Baptist University of Florida in Graceville, FL.
