Marjorie Olthoff
Clemson, South Carolina
Marjorie Olthoff passed away at the age of 101 on Saturday, February 24, at the Cottingham Hospice House in Seneca, SC after a brief illness. She was blessed with three children and with her 67-year marriage to her husband, Robert Olthoff. Born Marjorie Spanswick in Hartford, CT, Marjorie, known to her legion of friends as Marge, raised her children in Connecticut and Massachusetts, and lived most of her retirement years in South Carolina.
Her enthusiastic embrace of life, her warmth, and her never failing sense of humor drew people to her throughout her life. She was a devoted and caring mother, and forged friendships that lasted a lifetime. Throughout her career, she held many secretarial positions, some at very high levels. The skills that earned success in her working life carried into Marge’s involvement in her Clemson Downs retirement community, where she held prominent volunteer roles and was well-known and well-loved. When the new Hospice of the Foothills was in its infancy, she worked tirelessly as a key volunteer to help ensure the success of this community resource. Marjorie was an avid Red Sox fan, an enthusiastic Clemon Tigers supporter, and relished memories of the many travels she and her husband enjoyed. She was a member of the Fort Hill Presbyterian Church in Clemson.
Marjorie is survived by her children Christine, John, and Mark. She is preceded in death by her husband, Robert.
Per her wishes, a gathering to remember Marjorie will be held for friends and family members at her home in Clemson on Friday, March 8 from 1:00 PM - 5:00 PM.
