Janet L. Van Heusen, age 75, passed away on Thursday, September 19, 2024, at Lila Doyle Post Acute in Seneca, South Carolina. Born on May 24, 1949, she was the daughter of the late John F. Spinnenweber and Shirley H. Kappler.

In her younger years Janet enjoyed family time and spending time with her siblings and cousins on the Hudson River. She was very proud of growing up in Port Ewen New York and sported a personalized license plate for several decades. She is remembered and cherished in particular by her children for her amazing resilience.

Janet enjoyed many careers in her lifetime and was constantly re-inventing herself. Her primary career was as an RN working in hospitals and private duty. Over the years she also sold for many direct sales organizations including PartyLite and Tupperware. At one point she became an elementary education teacher after receiving her master’s degree and later in life worked as an aesthetician and massage therapist.

Ms. Van Heusen is survived by her children; Kristine Donahue of Seneca, South Carolina, Katrina Madden (Joshua) of Seneca, South Carolina, grandchildren; Benjamin Madden and Alana Madden, siblings; Sue Bunten (Daniel), Jack Spinnenweber (Michelle), and many cousins, nieces, and nephews.

In addition to her parents, Janet is predeceased by her niece; Danielle Bunten, two twin daughters; Abby and Betsy Baker who were adopted out shortly after birth, and many aunts, uncles and several cousins she was close with.

The family would like to thank her caregivers for the exceptional care and compassion shown to their mother since moving to South Carolina in 2021. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Alzheimer's Association (alzfdn.org) and Lakeview Assisted Living (upstateseniors.org/lakeview-giving).

A memorial service will be held in the state of New York at a later date in 2025.
