Ioan O'Maithriah

March 5, 1952 — March 10, 2023

Iona O’Maithriah

Born as

Patrick Rob Sencenbaugh

A man of great ideals and inspiration, Patrick dedicated every wakening moment to finding the true, the beautiful, and the good.

Our friend passed away at home surrounded by his family on March 10, 2023. Preceded in death by his parents Terrisa and Wayne Sencenbaugh. Patrick is survived by his partner of 38 years Karola (Lynn), brother Wayne Sencenbaugh, brother Mark Sencenbaugh. Patrick has four children Michael, James (Samantha), Jane, and Judah Sencenbaugh. He has one grandson Eli James Sencenbaugh.

Patrick was born March 5, 1952, in Seattle, Washington at Virgina Mason Hospital. Patrick graduated from Thomas Jefferson High School in 1970. He continued his education and received a BA in Education from WWU, and Masters in Physical Education from UW.

Patrick was very passionate, caring deeply for those his life touched. He shared many happy childhood memories of his parents and brothers. He had a very special relationship with his aunts and uncles. Patrick had many lifelong friends that were very dear to his heart. He enjoyed playing football, tennis, and running. In his college years as a young man, he began to awaken to new ideas. He wandered into a bookstore and was attracted by a book “Fasting Can Save Your Life”. He calls this the awakening moment. After reading the book he went on a 5 day fast on just water. He says he had such a good feeling of his mind feeling clear, “I knew that I had tapped into something important. I began to look into nutrition and started to work on cleansing myself.” By 1980, in response to an inner urge and deep feeling of compassion towards the creatures, he joined the Order of the Cross, an informal spiritual fellowship- the cultivation of the Spirit of Love towards all Souls.

In 1984 he married Karola (Lynn) and moved to Orcas Island. With great will and determination, he carved a new path that inspired all those he met.

He had great love of his ancestral lineage and spent much time gathering all the information of his Irish heritage. Both his mother's parents were born and raised in Ireland. His dad's Great-grandfather came to the USA from Germany. Patrick was a simple man and desired little of worldly goods. He spent a lot of his time on a mountain top or hiking or riding his bike. In his later years you would find him in meditation or reading books on spirituality, religion, and health to gain knowledge and understanding of the universe in which he lived.

Today we honor, respect, and remember an inspirational man who touched all our lives. He will be deeply missed. Join us in remembering our treasured memories of our beloved Patrick, who made us smile. We wish Patrick well in the next chapter of his life’s journey in the heavenly spheres.
