Eugene Richard Crouse

March 5, 1944 — January 10, 2024

Eugene Richard Crouse, 79, formerly of Bradenton, FL passed away at Oconee Memorial Hospital in Seneca, SC on January 10, 2024.
He was born on March 5, 1944 to the late Mr. and Mrs. Richard and Marie Crouse. After graduating from St. Edward High School in Lakewood, OH, Eugene enlisted in the US Navy where he served as a seaman on the USS Nitro which was part of the USS Enterprise fleet. He used the skills he learned in the Navy to start his career as a machinist and eventually a computer repair technician. Eugene retired from Pinellas County FL School District teaching adult education classes in both soldering and computers.
Eugene found great joy in the company of his beloved wife, Janet Crouse, who predeceased him in 2018. Their partnership was a source of strength, laughter, and shared adventures as highlighted in the fact that they were both competitive tennis players. Eugene was a ranked singles USTA 70 player both in the state of Florida (38) and nationally (403). His nimble moves on the tennis court were a testament to his skill and commitment, and he cherished the moments spent in friendly competition with friends and fellow enthusiasts. Eugene also enjoyed supporting Janet in competitions around the world with the Survivors In Sync Dragon boat team out of Sarasota, FL including a memorable trip to Florence, Italy where he watched the team rank 4th out of 125 teams.
Off the court, Eugene was known for his warm smile and kindness. His presence lit up any room, and his spirit will be sorely missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him. His family is very thankful that in the past few months, Eugene was able to visit with each of his sisters. Life was always an adventure, and he wasn’t ready to slow down. Most recently, he enjoyed learning about frisbee golf with his grandson. Eugene leaves behind a legacy of love, sportsmanship, and cherished memories that will forever be etched in the hearts of those who knew him.
Eugene is survived by a son Richard Crouse (Anna Marie) of Seven Hills, OH; daughter, Andrea Crouse of Brunswick, OH; son Kevin Crouse (Kathy) of Seneca, SC; daughter, Rebecca Palmer of Port Charlotte, FL; daughter Amy Liberi (Bob) of Dallas, TX; sister Patricia McKain of Venice Beach FL; twin sister Margaret (Richard) Bradford of Clemmons, NC; sister Elizabeth (Phil) Bahler of Huntington Beach, CA; sister Mary Peterson of Fairview Park, OH; twelve grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
In honoring Eugene's memory, let us remember the passion with which he approached each day and the joy he brought to the world. A memorial service with full military honors will be held on February 13, 2024 at 11AM at Sarasota National Cemetery with Pastor Stephen Gaulke from Concordia Lutheran officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Survivors In Sync Dragon Boat team in Sarasota, FL (https://www.survivorsinsync.org/donate).
