Donald Arthur Dexheimer was born to Roger and Ruth Dexheimer on March 26 1946, and went to his heavenly home on October 28, 2024.
Don graduated from Calumet High School Chicago, Illinois and Evangel College in Springfield, Missouri with degrees in Biochemistry and Art. He entertained a variety of careers in teaching, insurance and auto sales. In his younger years he enjoyed spending summers at Grandma Wetter’s cottage on Hudson Lake with his brother, Doug and cousins, Chad and Bill. He married Beverly Jones Scruton in 1976 and they moved south from Massachusetts to the Atlanta area and eventually settled in Westminster, SC, specifically in Chickasaw Point for the last 27 years.
At the late age of 48, he completely changed his career path, attending Gwinnett Technical College and graduating in 2 years with a Physical Therapy Assistant degree. Subsequently, he and his wife Bev, a Physical Therapist, worked closely together as a therapist team for many years. His hobbies included ship model building, growing bonsai trees, and collecting antique miniature oil lamps, with the “hunt” being his joy for finding unusual lamp treasures. Most of all, Don loved to travel! He and Bev visited many countries and states, by river and ocean cruising and land travel. They loved boating at their lake house on Lake Hartwell in Lavonia and golfing at Chickasaw Point. He was also a member of Fair Play Presbyterian and Dickson Memorial Methodist Church.
Don was a wonderful Christian husband and Dad to his daughter, Keren (Spencer), Bev’s sons, Craig and Keith (Tonya) and Grandpa to Alexandria (Carter), Madeline, Lauren and Ryan. When asked for advice, He would always reply “Do the loving thing”.
He is survived by his wife, Beverly, brother Doug Roger, sister Mary Jane and adopted brother, Doug Richard and the above family.
He has requested no service, however donations in his memory can be made to Samaritans Purse online at samaritanpurse.org or mail to: Samaritan’s Purse, PO Box 3000, Boone, NC 28607
