Christopher Oliver Martin

September 5, 1966 — August 7, 2024

Christopher Oliver Martin, 57 of 107 Silo Alley went to be with his Lord and Savior on August 7, 2024. He passed away at the Cottingham Hospice House in Seneca, SC.

Chris was preceded in death by his Father, Cecil Oliver “Ollie” Martin, and his precious daughter, Hannah Denise Martin.

He is survived by his wife, Marlene Martin, daughters, Christina, Meagan and Erin, and son, Sean. He is also survived by his sister, Julianne Martin, and mother, Mary Ann Rogers Martin.

Chris was born on September 5th, 1966, in Seneca SC, to Cecil Oliver, And Mary Ann Rogers Martin. He graduated from Seneca High School in 1984. Chris attended Anderson College, and Southern Wesleyan University. He was employed in the wastewater treatment field and worked as an operator, Operations Manager, and most recently as a Supervisor with Easley Combined Utilities. Chris was a conscientious and reliable employee.

Chris had 3 great loves in his life. The first was his family.

Chris was married to Teresa Evans from 1989 to 1999 and they had 3 daughters. Twins, Christina Ann, and Meagan Leigh; and a few years later, Hannah Denise. In 2001 Chris married Marlene, and gained a step son, Sean, and Stepdaughter, Erin.

Chris has one sibling, his beloved sister, Julianne Martin. She was born when Chris was 15 years old, and over the years they developed a strong bond between them. She would become his partner in running bowling tournaments, and managing his annual bowling trips to Las Vegas. No one knows better than Julianne what Chris was like since they could sometimes be mirror images of one another.

Chris had a great love and respect for his mother, Mary Ann. She spoiled him until the last moment, with her cooking, and snacks and sweet treats. He was never more than a phone call away from helping her with anything she needed, although to be fair, he didn’t always get to it as quickly as she might have liked, but he would have done anything for her.

Chris was the happiest when he was at home, with Marlene, in their sanctuary. He loved her beyond words, and he was the love of her life. This love was by arrangement of an introduction from his best friends Charlie, and Angie Rochester, with whom he shared a special bond.

When Chris became a grandpa, we saw a newer, gentler side of him emerge. Natalee, Kage and Korbyn provided him with as much love and happiness as any man could have.

Last but not least, he was head over heels in love with his fluffy Fur ball, Charlee. She was his recliner buddy. They had a routine down where he would carry her like a princess to her food bowl and feed her each morning before work, and she knew that as soon as the recliner was leaned back, she was ready to take her place and stretch out between daddy’s legs and get a belly rub.

His second love, was bowling.

Chris started bowling when he was a young boy, and bowled in the junior leagues during school. Once he graduated, he began league bowling with the men. For the last 30 plus years, Chris bowled with his best buddy, Gary. Rarely would you ever be at a tournament and see one without the other. Very seldom would you see them when they weren’t laughing, or fussing together about the condition of the lanes in various bowling centers.

Bowling was more than a hobby for Chris. It was his passion. No one understood this better than Marlene, who was always ready to re-schedule birthday and anniversary plans around a tournament and to plan summer vacations to include a bowling tournament as a side stop.

Chris’ 3rd love was Grace Baptist Church, and the church family. He was an active participant in small group bible studies, Sunday school, the security team, and most recently, he served as a deacon, and worked on the Pastor search committee.

Chris was a kind hearted, honest man, good friend, and the greatest, son, husband, father, Papa and friend and he will be sorely missed by all who knew and loved him.
